OpenStudy (agentjamesbond007):

My computer's audio jack does not support plug-in microphones, so is there a way to create an adapter for USB?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but its much cheaper if you buy one. It also comes in miniature sizes, you couldn't possibly work barehanded

OpenStudy (royboy):

Fun Way But Perhaps Pointless: You could hack an old USB headset (the kind with a boom mike). Cut of the head set and mike, and put the interface module into a utility box, with a female jack mounted into it, for the mike. For a bonus you could add a jack for headphones. Make sure you OS has the drivers for the headset, before you start. The Way I Did It. I bought a U.S.B. sound card off Ebay for 1.99, plus 5:00 shipping. I has a mike, line in and line out (headphones) jacks, and works really well. The moral of the story: never underestimate the power of off-shore mass manufacturing in a global economy to spoil the fun of hacking up something cool.
