Write the equation of the line which passes through (2, 1) and is perpendicular to x = –2. ( this is embarrassing but I am self teaching myself this stuff. ) I did this and I was told I got it wrong lol.
I got y= 1/2x ... Not sure what I forgot to do or where I went wrong lol
First off, there's nothing embarrassing about teaching yourself something. People who don't make mistakes never try anything new, so be happy you're not a boring person! =D So, what I'd do to start with this problem is to draw it out on paper. What does x=-2 look like, and what does a line perpendicular to that look like?
Aww you're too kind, it's been a while since I've taken algebra so it sucks that I forgot things that I was once so good at. :P and Well x=-2 is a vertical line. A line perpendicular to this would have to be horizontal.
Exactly, you've pretty much answered your own question. So what's an equation of a horizontal line? I'm not trying to be too difficult here, but I think you're more capable than some people here of figuring it out with less help. =D
lol It's fine. :D thank you.
So have you found your answer then, or still working on it?
I was thinking this through, maybe I thought way too much into it, not sure. but I came up with y= 1 as my answer.
Yeah, that's perfectly right. A line of x is perpendicular to a line of y right? Seems to match perfectly, sounds like you thought the right amount lol.
:D yay. Maybe I haven't forgotten that much of algebra. :P Thank you for your time. :)
Yeah if you have any more questions or things you want generally explained feel free to ask!
