Prime Minister Menachem Begin, President Anwar Sadat, President Carter, and Camp David are all associated with A. the Hostage Crisis B. efforts to end the Cold War C. a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt D. negotiations on the return of the Panama Canal
We can step through this one to find out what the answer is: The Iranian hostage crisis had nothing to do with this meeting, so (A) is definitely out. Ending the Cold War would take a lot more than just one meeting, and the participants were more concerned over Egypt and Israel...so that makes (B) invalid, too. And this meeting had nothing to do with the Panama Canal. Or even the Suez Canal which was actually in Egypt. So (D) is out. That leaves only (C), a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in what would be called the Camp David Accords. The rest below is just additional info in case you were curious: After Egypt stepped forward and formally recognized Israel as part of its own peace process, it was a watershed event that surprised many and led to an end of hostilities between the two. It also opened the door on the possibility of negotiating with Israel over a table than at the point of a gun and later negotiations would later try to demonstrate. In the short term, unfortunately, it also made Sadat extremely unpopular with hardline elements that hated Israel. The Palestinians were particularly upset since it did nothing to address the conflict between them and Israel. Many extremists saw this as a betrayal and even plotted to overthrow Sadat who was eventually assassinated four years after the Accords were signed.
