______ is a symbiosis where both organisms benefit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. Mutualism b. Commensalism c. Parasitism d. all of the above

OpenStudy (kainui):

Mutualism is a mutual relationship. Like in a marriage, it is mutual and both partners get something out of it, usually lol. Commensalism is when some animal gives a benefit to one animal without any kind of affect to the other. For example, when you're done playing with your toys and throw them away and someone else takes them out of the trash to play with them it benefits them but it really doesn't have anything to do with you except that you left it behind. Similarly, lions might catch a carcass and eat it, and when they've had their fill scavengers will eat the leftovers and the lions don't care, it's not like they have a freakin' fridge for crying out loud to save the leftovers jeeze. Parasitism. I mean, you know that parasitism isn't beneficial to the other one right? Leeches and stuff? Parasites man, ew. They get up inside your body like tape worms and suck on your guts and gross stuff and crap eww.

http://homepages.ics.edu.hk/alumni/class_of_2002/tan9304/Desert/symbiosis.htm Three Types of Symbiosis Because of the harsh desert environment, symbiosis is a major mechanism that is essential for plants and animals to survive. Symbiosis is a mutually beneficial relationship in which at least one organism benefits. Parasitism-this type of symbiosis has one organism that benefits while the other is harmed. Ex: In the desert, the Western Coral Snake will eat shovel-nosed snakes, black-headed snakes and whiptail lizards. The snake benefits from the nutrition of its prey, whereas the prey is killed. Mutualism-this type of symbiosis have both organisms that benefit. Ex: In the Sonoran Desert, during long periods of drought, the paloverde tree sheds its tiny leaves and even its branches. This helps the tree conserve its limited supply of water and reduce the water loss during evaporation. Animals benefit from this by the important source of food provided by the leaves, twigs, pods and beans. Commensalism-this type of symbiosis has one organism benefit and the other is neither harmed nor benefitted. Ex: In northern Chile, the Atacama Desert is located near the sea. A fog from the sea often covers the plants which ants can drink the water off the surface of the plant. The ant benefits from the water, and the plant is neither harmed nor benefitted.
