Given X = {15, 22, 33, 44, 89, 165, 1025} and Y = {-5, 15, 33, 88, 99, 150, 160, 1025}, which of the following statements is false? X ∪ Y = {-5, 15, 22, 33, 44, 89, 99, 150, 160, 165, 1025} X ∩ Y = {15, 33, 1025}

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

X ∪ Y means union of X and Y are there any elements left out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh,i didnt even see that the 88 wasn't there, thanks

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Union is every thing they both have so if A = { a,b,c } and B = {a,b,d} then are the elements in A or B thus AUB = {a,b,c,d} intersection is only the elements they both have. so only elements in A and B so A intercect B = {a,b}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey can you help with this one too? Which of the following describes the graph of {x | 2 < x < 2}? just a closed circle on 2 an open circle on 2 and arrows pointing out the entire number line no solution

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

can something be less than two and greater than two?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it's a union then yeah, so is it no solution?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

That says nothing about union, and no number can be greater than and smaller than a number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that , but i've seen graphs with an open circle on a number, and lines pointing out in both directions, i guess i just got a lil confused

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

does it mean every value of x < 2 and > 2 in which caes in second option

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

* in which case its second option

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what i thought, but i got that one wrong, thats why i asked, :b
