The interface at the top is ugly, the right side shouldn't go under the SmartScore and categories bar.
Additional feedback: A hierarchical structure of the subjects would help, so it wouldn't have 11 top-level OCW subjects.
I agree
Thanks for the feedback. We'll think it over and let you know if we have any questions.
Structure hierarchy is not a terrible idea, though at the number of groups we have it's not *that* helpful. It's going to be much more useful if we try to break up groups; however, implementing such a breakup is more complicated than just coding it up, as we'd be fragmenting the answerers as well. So there are a variety of other problems that need to be addressed as well in that instance. I disagree with you fairly vehemently about the header, both about its being “ugly” (it's unclear what you mean by that, i.e. if you have any more constructive criticism to offer) and about its needing to be below the right side of the page when scrolling (that would not only be ugly but incredibly visually confusing, since the right half of the header is not visually separate from the left, meaning we'd be cutting a whole in two at an arbitrary point).
Here's what I meant by an ugly interface. If you didn't notice it then it's maybe just a browser thing. In any case, this is how it looks in Chrome. The comments go right under the bars and can be seen right between the SmartScore lines when hovering over the SmartScore.
… Ah. I see. For some reason the facebook like and tweet buttons that are usually there aren't for you. It still looks a bit odd when they are there, but reproducing the background of the top area is essentially impossible and using a flag color looks even stranger. Still, that hole isn't supposed to be a hole at all. See attachment for what it's supposed to look like. Do you run adblock or anything else that blocks fb/twitter by any chance?
Honestly, I don't even remember and couldn't care less about fb and twitter buttons, it's just the way the conversation is showing underneath that's bothering me. The list of questions on the left doesn't scroll under anything though, can't the one on the right have a similar design?
Due to the way the page is structured, not really, no. We use the page's scrolling mechanism to scroll the right pane. It's not really about caring about fb and twitter though. If they're not loading because of something on our end, we want to fix that. If they're not loading because of something on your end, the design basically looks significantly worse because of something you're doing, and we don't have the time to spend on adjusting to that minority use case, if that makes sense.
Ok, disabled the ad blocker, the buttons show now. I still don't think it looks nice, but I'll just leave it at that.
