explain brassicacea's features : vegetative characteristics , stem , leaves , floral characters , inflorescence , flower , calyx , corolla , androecium , gynoecium , fruit , seed and some examples of those .
Hmmm sounds like a question based on one of your classes - I suspect your best source will be your notes. Which part are you struggling with? :)
naming of a flowering plant .. full i guess :/
can you help ?
Yes, it is a family of flowering plants - which means they are angiosperms. What was your class about that you got this question for? :)
actually i want to learn how to draw the floral diagram ! and what does your last sentence say ? am sorry i didn't get you !
@TranceNova you know this ?
Ahhh okay, I can help you with that :) Sorry - I was typing a little fast, I was asking what class this question is from. (Sorry again, looking up old notes)
11th .. its okay !
is that what you asked for ?
Yeah, pretty much.. Anyway... This website seems to have some good features (and some good diagrams) http://www.tutorvista.com/content/biology/biology-iii/angiosperm-families/family-brassicaceae.php# All the notes of my own that I could find say: - Trees/ shrubs - Odorous, watery juice (glucosinolate) - Irregular lobes (no stipules) - Inflorescence raceme of small to fairly showy flowers - Petals often clawed and usually free. - 6 stamens (usually tetradynamous -3 shorter than other 3, check) - Fruit: specialized 2-valved capsule with central partition (from replum)
yeah okay .. that seems useful , but can you teach me how to draw the floral diagrams , please spider lover :D
Uh ooh, you've been looking at my profile.. Sorry this is taking me so long, I haven't looked a plant stuff in a few years, but I'm trying to put together a description for you :)
yeah .. okay :)
So for the first part of the floral diagram you draw lines or curves representing the different whorls (the petals, sepals etc) on the outside with the ovary in the middle. Brassicacea has 4 sepals, 4 petals, 6 stamens and a gynoecium syncarpous of 2 carpels (ie. the ovaries two are attached). Here is an example floral diagram: http://botanydictionary.org/floral-diagram.html See if you can draw it from my description? :D Do ask if any of it doesn't make sense
*The ovaries are in two carpels - the carpels are attached (sorry!)
don't mistake me but can you tell me where the sepals , petals and etc are there from the diagram ?
i dont understand the way we should draw them , like first what must come , second what must come :/
No problem, You usually put the petals on the out side, followed by the sepals, then the stamens then the carpels in the middle.
oh okay thanks .. :D
Here are some Brassicaceae pictures that might help you (attached). You draw the parts of the flowers on the floral diagram in the same order that they are in on the flower itself.
wow loads of thanks Trance :)
No worries :)
