I need to solve this and get a y=_ answer with a whole number. 2(2y-1)/3+2y-3(-y-14)/2=1

hartnn (hartnn):

since there is 2 and 3 in denominator, tell me whats the LCM of 2 and 3?

It's 6, I know. I've tried it several different ways and they all come out wrong.

You want to do something like this: \[\begin{align*} \frac{2(2y-1)}{3}+2y-\frac{3(-y-14)}{2}&=1\\ 4(2y-1)+12y-9(-y-14)&=6\\ 8y-4+12y+9y+126&=6\\ 29y&=-116\\ y&=-4 \end{align*}\]

Oh, I thought I had to multiply what was inside the parantheses by 2 and 3 as well. I get it now, thank you!
