Why can a subtraction problem be rewritten as an addition problem without changing the outcome?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

because of the commutative property of addition i.e. 2 + (-3) = -3 + 2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you consider that there is no such thing as subtraction, then it all works out fine. adding the opposite is equivalent to "subtraction"

Thank you

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

wonder which one helped

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your welcome, and if you can think of addition as adding vectors, it becomes even clearer
