What is the solution of the inequality a-1>11.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happens when you add 1 to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2>12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happened to "a" and -1 +1 =?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its a<12 but im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the sign only switches if you multiply or divide by -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well could u explain the entire thing cause im lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we start with a-1>11 we add 1 to both sides a-1+1>11+1 we simplify a>12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so i got it right except for the sign was backwards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

direction of the sign is very important ok if we had -a>11 (-1)(-a)>(-1)11 a<-11 the direction of the sign only changes when multiplying by a negative number suppose a was equal to -12 12>11 (-1)12<(-1)(11) -12<-11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soo a-6>-4 would be a<2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wrong, you're not multiplying by a negative number so the sign wouldnt switch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its a>2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oky well then what would i do with an equation like -1+c>-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same as you did for the previous problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be c>-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yahhh culd u help with some more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1+b>3
