Sandy is constructing a triangle LMN congruent to triangle PQR. She constructed a segment LN congruent to side PR. She then measured side QR with a ruler and constructed a segment of the same length above and towards the right side of segment LN from point N. What error did Sandy make in this step? Drawing the segment from point N instead of R. Drawing a segment with a ruler instead of an arc with the compass. Drawing the segment towards the left of segment LN intead of towards the right. Drawing a segment above segment LN instead of marking a point M.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

constructions don't involve rulers (which is a bit counter-intuitive, I know)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

they involve a compass and a straightedge (which is a ruler, but with no markings on it)

for some reason i think its option D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm thinking B because you don't use a ruler, you use a straightedge But it could also be C because the segment is supposed to go to the left of point N, not the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think C looks better

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you may have a point, this problem is a bit odd in my opinion

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if possible, let me know what you get (ie what the true answer is), because I'm curious now
