The way the expression is presented is ambiguous.
\[\lim_{x \rightarrow 0} \frac{x^{2}-1}{x} \]???
It appears to be a one sided limit. This is the limit as x approaches 0 from the left.

Here, if you simply substitute in 0, the limit is undefined. But if we allow x to be just infinitely just less than 0, we can see what its TRYING to do. Here, the numerator approaches -1, and the denominator approaches a number just smaller than 0 (some VERY small negative number). Therefore the limit approaches an extremely large positive number, or +inf.
