How do you go about simplifying problems like: 1. x(x-1)^-1/2 + 2(x-1)^1/2 There are a few problems like this. It's the start of school, and I've completely forgotten. ANY help would be fantastic. Also, the same things for problems like: 2. (((1/y-k)-(1/y))/k) 3. (x^3/2 + (2/sqrt.of3)^2 Thank you!

common denominator: (x-1)^1/2... so multiply second term by sqrt(x-1)/sqrt(x-1). You get [x+2(x-1)]/sqrt(x-1). Simplify numerator. (3x-2)/sqrt(x-1) = (3x-2)sqrt(x-1)/(x-1). Is that the sort of answer you need?

it is just simply binomial expansion of (x+a)^n,put n=-1\2 and a=-1

multiply and divide the eq. by (x-1)^1/2.......then simplyfy
