if you were to use the substitution method to solve the following system, choose the new equation after the expression equivalent to x from the first equation is substituted into the second equation. –x + 5y = 1 2x + 4y = –4 a. 2(5y – 1) + 4y = –4 b. 2(–5y + 1) + 4y = –4 c. 2x + 4(–5y + 1) = –4 d. 2x + 4(5y – 1) = –4

To solve for x you need to subtract 5y from bothsides. Once you do that you have -x = -5y + 1 but you can't leave a negative variable answer so multiply everything by -1 which changes the solution for x to x = 5y - 1. Now you substitute it in for x. can you find the right one know?

Not C. You put it in for y you have to put it in for x. So which one shows you putting in 5y - 1 for x.

a
