Mathematics 9 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

n2 + (n + 1)2 = 85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n2 + n2 + 2n + 1 = 85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2n2 + 2n - 84 = 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now What Do I Do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can divide by 2 to make it easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[n^2+n-42=0\] i think this one factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I Got That But After That I Dont Know What To do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you factor as \((n+7)(n-6)=0\) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where does the 7 and 6 come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because \(-6\times 7=-42\) and also \(7-6=1\) so when you multiply out, you get \(n^2+n-42\) whic is what you want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i have to find the LCM Of -42
