give example of ways in which different way in which observatinos are used in scientific inquiry
observations are used to support hypotheses, for example if you suspected a balloon was losing air through a small hole, you could test that hypotheses by blowing up said balloon and searching the balloons surface for air rushing out. You would either observe air rushing out of the balloon through a hole in the balloon with your hand, supporting your hypotheses or you would observe no air rushing out of the balloon refuting your hypotheses. Hope this helps explain the concept
Wow bad grammar on my part oh well
In the spirit of intellectual inquiry, I have reasons to believe that the admins and or moderators of this website have committed an egregious blunder by deleting my previous response on the subject matter. I, however, will not be discouraged by such indiscretion. So, I am again attaching two excerpts from two different books that I know to be the most exhaustive and extensive presentation of differentiating "theory" in scientific and lay terms. The first one with a caption "process of science" is an excerpt from the 9th edition of Campbell Biology textbook providing the concept of "scientific processes or methods." A second attachment captioned "only a theory" is a chapter excerpt from the book The Greatest Show on Earth by Dawkins.
