Using the graph below, select all statements that are true. (will attach in a sec!!) a. f(1.4) = 1 b. f(4.5) = 5 c. This graph is one-to-one. d. This is the graph of the greatest integer function. e. f(0) = 0 *** choose ALL that apply! My answers so far: A, D Please explain! I think there might be one more answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi! thanks for coming to help! Are my answers correct so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it is not B... i think... but is this a one to one function? And does f(0)=0 apply?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because for B 4.5 goes to 4 am i correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this graph might be better to look at http://www.mathwords.com/f/floor_function.htm they seem fine so far and i believe you're just missing an answer

hero (hero):

I've looked at several graphs. The graph you posted is slightly different since it doesn't have the open and closed circles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so does f(0)-0 not apply since there is no line on the 0??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops! f(0)=0 does not have a line on it on my graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be C the graph is one to one function also? since they do not overlap? @completeidiot and @Hero ??

hero (hero):

f(0) appears to equal -1 anyway

hero (hero):

This graph looks like it was designed to trick you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see @Hero so the other answer is that it is a one to one function then??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it looks like a normal step function so f(0)=0

hero (hero):

Looks can be deceiving

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but there is not line on the 0 and on my graph I looked again after @hero pointed it out, that f(0) actually goes to -1....

hero (hero):

The graph looks nothing like what you posted from mathwords.com @completeidiot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well no idea then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait i zoomed in and it does have a line on the 0, does that mean f(0)=0 then?? lemme post it hold on a sec!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you see it? if u look closely, there is a blue line on 0...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that help??

hero (hero):

The first graph you posted is tricky

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hero it looks like a graph you would get if you put it into a graphing calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i zoomed in and it showed part of it better :)

hero (hero):

Okay, well, if that's the case, maybe it can be the greatest integer function. But yeah f(0) = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if d is true then e would also be true

hero (hero):

@iheartfood, you should have posted the zoomed in graph first :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops! sorry! and a greatest integer function cannot be one to one b/c it doesn't pass the horizontal line test right??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the final answers are A,D,E ????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hero and @completeidiot ??? am i right??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG!! thanks so much!! :) Im a give u best answer @completeidiot and can u pls give @Hero one b/c i can only give one :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

unfamiliar with one to one function i do no think it is one- quick reading and because it does not pass the horizontal line test

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool! thanks! i'll post my next question in a bit and i'll send u the link! thanks!!
