If p = kq, where k is a constant, and if q = 3 when p = 51, what does q equal when p = 85?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find k first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont kno how to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

p=kq=>51=3k solve for k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i still cant do it can u tell me the answer than explain it please tht will make it easier to understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

51=3k=>k=17 now the formula becomes p=17q you want to find q when p=85,so 85=17q=>q=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg i dont understand any of tht or wht to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

p and q are variables ,that is they are always changing in such a way that p=kq, where k is a constant,they are called directly proportional to solve such problems you should be first able to solve simple equations

hero (hero):

We given the equation p = kq and we're given the values of p and q. q = 3 , p = 51. Insert those values into the formula. Let me know what you get.
