Write a summary of what you learned from this assignment. Include responses to the following questions: What were your thoughts on the role of the government in promoting and ensuring tolerance before doing this project? What was your interview experience like? What did your interview subjects already know about the role of the Constitution and the law? What new things were you able to share with them? What did you learn from the interviews that surprised you? Which interview(s) provided you with the most interesting information? Identify one response with which you agreed. Identify one response that challenged the way that you were thinking of the issue or idea. After talking with these two adults, which amendment or legislative act has had the most significant impact on tolerance today?

A weak central government would mean more independent individual states making their own decisions and not being forced under certain acts or to abide by laws that would only be good for some people and bad for others. Having a strong central government means all the states would have to abide by laws, some laws would be good for certain areas, but for other areas it would be a horrible thing because of the repercussions and effects it can have on certain groups. Maintaining a weak central government gives power to the states and lets them choose what they believe will help improve the state. In most cases a weak central government shows for more equality and relies on independent state choices. However, in times of war a strong central government is needed rather than what the individual states want. An example of the pros of a strong central government is in the 1800's hen certain states tried to leave the Union, the Union did not want this to happen so we ignored their decisions and what they wanted in order to keep the states apart of the Union. If a bad decision is made then it effects everyone, however, if a bad decision is mad by a state then it only applies to the state and doesn't necessarily effect the nation as a whole. You can see that sometimes government inequality can be good, and sometimes it can be bad. In society it is inevitable that others will look upon people and judge them. It is a built in instinct, but with time we have learned to keep our opinions and personal beliefs to ourselves and let others believe in what they want. Imposing your beliefs on others in most cases is looked down upon in society, but you can't blame the person for doing it because h was raised in a society that teaches children what to think; not how to think. When Gaby Borges talked about how society looks at others and judges them immediately, not even giving them a chance; I thought to myself, "this is true, and happens in society. I'm rather disappointing." It was intriguing because that person covered in tattoos and gang symbols might actually be studying for his Ph.D or interesting in science, however, we automatically judge him and think that he's mean or has mental issues. Gaby Borges knew about the Constitution and legal rights as American citizens. Her views on educating students at an early age was rather interesting, and I'd have to agree with her on that, but not only should we teach tolerance in schools, but on T.V, radio, and daily life. I'd go as far as to say we should teach it in our house hold, but the Government has no place to tell us what we're allowed to teach in our homes because that in itself would be intolerant. My thoughts have changed a lot after taking this interview and listening to others. I know the importance of the Governments role, societies position, and what role you play. Beforehand I just went on with daily life believing what I read in my local newspaper. Because of this I now know of some nasty forms of propaganda that groups use to satisfy their own intolerance. Yes, this is directed at you Rick Santorum and Westboro Baptist Church, I'm watching you. Toodles, Gaby Borges

OpenStudy (compassionate):

@Gabylovesyou , It's a masterpiece.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):
