Please explain adding fractions? I got the subtracting part down, I think! But the problem is 17 2/5 + 14 /15

ok, then maybe if you listed your steps here then I can help you spot where you may have made a mistake.

okay. Well I multiplied 2/5by 3 to make it 6/15, then added that to 7/15.

And I got the fraction 13/15 and put it with the number 31, getting 31 13/15

where did you get 7/15 from?

Oh I'm so sorry, i typed the question wrong. The original equation is 17 2/5 + 14 7/15!
