1. On Tuesdays , a smoothie with a regular price of $3.80 is discounted by 25% . A costumer has a coupon that entitles him to an additional 15% off the discounted price . The cashier finds the final price by applying a 40% discount to the regular price . Is this approach correct ? Why or why not ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try figuring why NOT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:"an additional 15% off the ! discounted ! price"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it $2.42 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So how do I write it out ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you first apply a 25% discount, then an extra (coupon) 15% discount to the DISCOUNTED price as stated above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the approach of 25+15=40%discount is wrong, because the coupon discount applies on the already discounted price

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k thanks
