I took a test and need help understanding what I missed and why. 1: Which of the following describes an organelle that both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells have in common? A:this organelle contains the cell's DNA and is where DNA replication occurs B:This organelle is composed of a stack of membrane sacs where proteins are modified and stored. C:This organelle extracts energy stored in glucose molecules to power cell functions. D:This organelle is composed of protein and RNA and is used to make proteins for the cell.
A is the incorrect answer I Got
well i know it cant be A as Prokaryotic cells do not have DNA only RNA
Question 2 Sucrose and lactose are two carbohydrates that have the same molecular formula (C12 H22 O11). Which of the following describes why sucrose and lactose have different properties. A:They are made up of different monomers. B:They differ in how atoms are bonded to their hexagonal rings.(incorrect in a past test) C:They differ in there arrangement of glucose. (also incorrect) D:They are made of different combinations of monosaccharides
That's incorrect, @Geometry_Hater. Prokaryotes do have DNA, but it's not in a membrane-bound nucleus like in Eukaryotic cells. That's actually one of the most important differences between the two: "karyon" = nucleus.
okay so what is the correct answer for question 1
I think the answer for question one is C and I think the answer for question 2 is D.
The answer to question one cannot be C: mitochondria are a eukaryotic thing. Interestingly, according to the endosymbiont theory, mitochondria are probably ancient symbiotic bacteria that now live in eukaryotic cells as organelles.
is question 1 B??
I know B are lymosomes but to me it doesn't sound right
No, that's the golgi apparatus. Fancy membrane-related things are generally eukaryotic (one of the main features of eukaryotes is that they have membrane-bound organelles).
so it must be D the ribosomes. Right?
Yep! Both eukaryotes and prokaryotes have ribosomes :)
thanks. Just wondering but is question 2 D?
Sucrose is glucose + fructose, and lactose is galactose + glucose. I suppose that would mean they're made up of different combinations of monosaccharides.
Thank you so much
No problem.
