Suppose that the volatile impurities in the crucible are not burned off while cleaning the crucible but are removed during the experiment. Is the reported mass percent of water in the hydrated salt too high or too low?

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

"Suppose that the volatile impurities in the crucible are not burned off while cleaning the crucible but are removed during the experiment." That makes no sense. This would: Suppose that the volatile impurities in the crucible are not burned off during the experiment, but are removed during cleaning. Is that it?

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

No, I've got it. You start with a crucible dirty with volatile impurities. OK

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

When you heat a hydrated substance in a crucible, what are you removing from the substance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We are burning a hydrate. So will the anhydrous salts mass be too high or too low Because of the impurities that weren't cleaned in the initial weighing of the crucible
