Write the equation of the line that passes through (–1, 5) with a slope of 2 in standard form a –2x – y = –7 b 2x – y = –7 c 2x – y = 11 d –2x + y = –11

The number in front of the x there gives the slope. At least I think that's what you call the slope. It's the derivative. You know the point it goes through. So if you put in (x,y) = (-1,5) into those, then it has to satisfy the equation. Otherwise the equation doesn't represent the line, because it can't go through that point.
