6[5y-(3y-1)] ≥ 4(3y-7) Help please!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

deal with the brackets first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 30y-18y-6 ≥ 12y-7 then collected like terms on left side 12y-6≥12y-7 @dan280291

yer me too, but it doesnt work the 12y's cancel out. what was the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First of all, you forgot to multiply the -7 with 4, which is 28. Simplifying further, you should get \[12y \ge 12y-22\] It looks like this is a trick question, and when it comes to greater than or equal tos, it gets trickier. Move the 12y over, and it cancels, coming out as \[0 \ge -22\] In this situation, that is correct. 0 is greater than -22.

@dan280291 It was just to solve the inequality & graph it, 6[5y-(3y-1)] ≥ 4(3y-7)

@lightsaurora Ohhhh shoot!! I did by accident. Thank you so much!!! Makes sense now

No problem! Sometimes its that one little thing that makes everything work out.
