what is an ex of unity in diversity? All organisms, including prokaryotes and eukaryotes, use essentially the same genetic code. The structure of DNA is the same in all organisms. The forelimbs of all mammals have the same basic structure, modified for different environments. Cilia and flagella in all eukaryotes have the same basic structure. All of the above are correct.
What do you think? Try to remember what you learned in class about DNA and mammal forelimbs. Just in case you don't know about cilia/flagella, here are some pictures to help: Cilia are short hair-like projections that ciliates (e.g. Paramecium) use to swim and acquire food. They are generally found in large numbers. The micrograph on the left is a cross section through the basal bodies of cilia (those are the bits at the bottom that basically anchor the cilia in the cell), and on the right, you see a cross section through the main part of the cilia. http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/imgnov03/Fig7a.jpg Flagella are much longer hair-like projections that are also used for swimming. Cells usually have only one or two. In this picture, you can see cross sections through flagella. Only the bottom row is relevant... in the other images, the cell membrane has been removed, probably by the scientists who took these pictures: http://jcb.rupress.org/content/144/2/293/F3.medium.gif
