Can anyone explain vectors to me, please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a vector has a magnitude and a direction. this can be visualized as a car going 55m/s, northwest..... as you can see the magnitude is 55m/s and the direction is northwest... this is said to be a velocity vector..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

other vectors are force: are force is applied with some magnitude, in newtons.... then there is obviously a direction to this force... this direction is called the line of action... but thats rather high level for you... ;)

force is*

also for vectors in math they are usually shown a system of three coordinates (x,y,z) and have a magnitude of sqrt(x^2+y^2+z^2)

OpenStudy (agentnao):

Magnitude, in relation to a vector is just distance, right?

OpenStudy (agentnao):

\[\left(\begin{matrix}2x \\ x-3\end{matrix}\right)\] and \[\left(\begin{matrix}x + 1 \\ 5\end{matrix}\right)\] are perpendicular for the two values of x. How should I go about this equation to find the value(s) of x?
