12(n-3)+4(n-13)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is your job to multiply and combine like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the first part its going to be 16n... i saw the answer was 16n-88 but i don't know how they got 88. You get 16n by adding 12 and 4 by using like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first you need to multiply \(12(n-3)\) using the distributive law you get \(12n-3\times 12=12n-36\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

similarly \(4(n-13)=4n-52\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then combine like terms \[12n-36+4n-52=12n+4n-36-52=16n-88\] that is where the \(-88\) comes from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok! thanks
