I Know This Is Mathematics But Can Somebody Help Me Find A Example From Physical Science?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand really what you need

Got Homework On Science And I Have To Give A Example Of Independent Vairable Dependent Varible And Control/ Constant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets imagine im boiling some water. i can change how much water i want to boil, and if i add more water it will take longer to boil. in this case the amount of water is independent because im directly changing it. the time it takes to boil is a dependent variable because more water means longer time. i would have to make sure each time i did the experiment i made sure the temperature was the same (CONSTANT) so it was a fair test i could use a standard amount of water, for example 100 ml , as a CONTROL to compare the other amounts against. hope this helps, i tried to make it easy to understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks It Does!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So.... Independent Variable: Amount Of Water Dependent Variable: Time It Takes To Boil Control/ Constant: Standard Amount Of Water Is The Answer? Am I Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was taught that Control and Constant are different things. have you been told they are the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, well i would say then, Control/Constant = something you keep the same each time, like the temperature you heat the water to eg 100 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So The Control/ Constant Is 100 degrees? I Have A Horrible Science Teacher Sorry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah dont blame the science teacher, he/she is probably trying his/her best, im not that good at explaining. if we were testing how the amount of water affects the time it takes to boil, then we'd want to have the same conditions each time wouldn't we? other wise our results would be affected. we would want to use the same method of heating it, for example. anything that remains the same in each experiment is CONSTANT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! But I Just Need An Example! For Each Can You Jsut Give Me That Not Trying To Be Rude?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure. i am testing how changing the amount of water in a kettle affects how long it takes to boil: DEPENDENT: time taken to boil INDEPENDENT: amount of water CONSTANT/CONTROL: kettle used
