Find All Real Solutions of the Polynomial Equation: Z^4+Z^3+Z^2+3Z-6=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait why -1?

hero (hero):

Actually, let Z = 1

hero (hero):

I thought that last 3Z was an exponent, but it's not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

hero (hero):

I'm sure by now you already know that Z = 1 works, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

hero (hero):

Which means (x-1) is one of the factors. Now do synthetic division to find the other factors.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the answer but i don't see how

hero (hero):

If only you knew how to do synthetic division.

hero (hero):

Long division might even work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait lost track how you get Z=1

hero (hero):

I didn't "get" it. I simply used a procedure to find the first factor of Z. When dealing with problems like this, you have to use trial and error to find the first factor.

ok i see
