could someone please help me understand how to find the area of a sector of a circle with a 40degree angle?? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

|dw:1346380095536:dw| Since a circle has 360 deg. at the centre, the area of the sector is (40/360)*pi*r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks, but is that just an equation for all problems like this or ????

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yes, you can do it the same way for other angles. Substitute 40 deg. by the new angle. The drawing should give a good idea why this works.

so would the answer to the problem above be 8.72cmsq

OpenStudy (mathmate):

It's possible, but I don't know the radius.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yes, that what I got too!
