The world speed record on water was set on October 8, 1978 by Ken Warby of Blowering Dam, Australia. If Ken drove his motorboat a distance of 1000 m in 7.045 s, how fast was his boat moving in mi/h.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you need to figure out how many meters and in a mile then find out how many secs are in an hour

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1609 meters in a mile 3600 seconds in an hour. I already know that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so Ken is moved 1000 meter in 7.045 secs. In terms of miles how many miles is that >?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1000/1609

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, reduce that to a decimal that will be your top answer. Now to work on the bottom. You mentioned there were 3600 sec in an hour he moved for 7.045s. so 3600/ 7.045 = 511.0007 thats how many "cycles" or 7.045 secs occur concurrently in an hour. that answer needs to be multiplied by the top answer. to determine how fast hes moving in miles per hour

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me know what you get and I'll tell you what i got :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 317.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good, I got 317.58 Good Job. So its 317 mph
