do you have a drawing that goes with this
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no
OpenStudy (anonymous):
we need more information. is there anything else that is missing?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I wish there was. I thought the same thing. Not even an example in the book to at least follow.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Only thing is abd and bde are supplementary.

that's what we needed. look up what supplementary means.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok. but i don't understand how to work the problem
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok, so supplementary means that the 2 angles equal 180 degrees
OpenStudy (anonymous):
this means that
m<abd + m<bde=180
OpenStudy (anonymous):
substitute and solve for x after that

you may also run into the word complementary which means the angles add up to 90
complementary starts with C which is the first letter of corner, which is what 90 looks like.
supplementary starts with an S which is the first letter of Straight, which is what 180 looks like
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im not able to get the answer that is in the book
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what do you get
OpenStudy (anonymous):
180-(3x=12)
180-3x-12
168-3x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ahhhhh, you wrote this kinda funny, let's work through this slowly

3x+12+7x-32=180
OpenStudy (anonymous):
then combine like terms
OpenStudy (anonymous):
10x-20=180
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Great, do you know the next step?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and does this set up make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
you are almost done
OpenStudy (anonymous):
10x=100
OpenStudy (anonymous):
answer in book is 72 and 108

x=10, then plug x back into the equations for the two angles
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it still isn't coming out exactly right, let me double check stuff
