OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

where are you up to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just started.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

do you understand the first question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no like, I've done it. but I just need to check through.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeaa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the first question. I have to do it in PEMDAS but i dont know how to do it.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

What do you have so far for A)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ughh.my friend says it's wrong. i got (-10) + (-2) + (-1) + 3b + b - 14 -3 +25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was just a guess. cuz i didn't know how to do it.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

thats a good start you have got the plus and minus operators

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

you will also need × and ÷ , also you will need to give one term an index say \(b^{-2}\)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

and bracket a group of terms instead of justa single term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand the first question now. I got : (-10/ -2 + -1exponent3 ) + 14 +3b +b

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

^

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

well done :) still i dont see two operations in ur expression : multiplication(x) and subtraction(-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-10/ -2 + -1exponent3 ) + 14 x 3b - b

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

dont forget 25, also you might want to write \((-1)^3 \)as (-1)^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-10/ -2 + -1^t3 ) + 14 x 3b + b - 25

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

ignoring that 't' your answer is great ,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okai. so now simplify... can u give me tips on simplify?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

just remember order of operations and you should be fine

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

note that -1^3 is different to (-1)^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... how ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okaii. I got my way tru the all the question. but i need help on the last question. i dnt understand.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you familiar with absolute values ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorta

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

great ! the last question asks to : 1) change each of the given values to absolute value. 2) and use in the expression 3) simplify 4) compare with old result

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're given the values : {14, 3, -2, -1, 3b, b, 25, -10,}; for ex, absolute value of -2 : |-2| = 2 you should use 2 in the expression, instead of -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okai.. but how about division s and teh exponents ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

they all remain same. structure of expression remains same. just u need to change the input values !

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

give a try !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(10/2 + 1^3 ) + 14 +25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ryte??

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're almost correct :) is this your old expression : (-10/ -2 + -1^t3 ) + 14 x 3b + b - 25 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ughhh so then ... idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 you there?
