Scientific notation has a certain form: like 1.016X10^6
You can have only a single digit to the left of the decimal point.

So if it doesn't have a single digit to the left of the decimal point it is NOT an scientific notation ?

Not technically. I believe it is just called exponential notation at that point.

The digit to the left has to be a non- zero digit... thank you for the example. It triggered a specific rule.
