OpenStudy (honeymonster):

please help me solve this equation.. posted in replies

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

\[\frac{ x }{ 3 } - \frac{ 2x }{ 5 } = 2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first we have to find common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to ?

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

would it be 15?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes .. so now you can rewrite the equation so that all the terms will have 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example x/3 -> 5x / 15

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

and the other one would be 2x/5 -> 6x/15 is that correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

verygood

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the whole equation then become..

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

5x/15 - 6x/15... :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no since you forgot about the right side of the equation (you have to multiply it by 15 since it has 1 in its denominator ) : 5x/15 -6x/15 = 30/15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and now you can forget about the denominator since its the same for all the terms so now, can you solve it ?

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

-x=30? or would it be - 30?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-x = 30 -> x = -30

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

yeahh thats what i meant..thank you :)
