MATH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what in math...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

GRADE 4 MATH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ryan is going to earn a little money this summer by mowing lawns in his neighborhood. he plans to charge 5$ per yard and has his schedule worked out for the first two week of summer. in the first week he will mow 7 lawns and he has planned to mow 11 lawns in the second week.

hero (hero):

@linda18, may I know why you can't help her?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

** how much will ryan earn in the first week? ** How much will he earn in the second week? ** how much will he earn both weeks?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

she wants someone else to explain it and that was my sister i guess i didn't explain that well!

hero (hero):

This is a case where you can just make a chart of the cost of each mowing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no she not yelling at me lol. can u show by the chart please???

hero (hero):

Yards doesn't factor in this case. It's $5 per yard, as in, each house has its own yard.

hero (hero):

There's two definitions for yard. In this case, yard is just an space of grass surrounding a house.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow, you guys are making this so complicated.

hero (hero):

lol, I'm not. @nincompoop is the one trying to confuse people.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah its a little hard

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to understand

hero (hero):

1st yard = $5 2nd yard = $5 3rd yard = $5 ... keep going until you get to 7 for the first week.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's not hard to understand lol, he's mowing 7 lawns first week and he gets $5 per lawn first week = $5*7 second week = $5*11

hero (hero):

I was trying to show the chart method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so just keep going until 7th yard and then thats my answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's your answer for the first week for the second week you keep going until 11th yard

hero (hero):

You can either multiply $5 times each lawn mowed or you can add $5 for each lawn mowed. The question should have stated "lawn" rather than yard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i got it yeah like the 5*7=35 first yARD , 5*11=55 and then add 35+55

OpenStudy (anonymous):

55 is 2 yard

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i would just show my work like that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i know i just couldn't find it on my keyborde for a second lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help with one more can anyone help me??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you for explaining it for me =)

joey is going to earn some money this spring by cleaning up his neighbor's gardens. he plans to clean up 20 gardens and charge $3 for each garden. his brother trevor is going to help him. joey is going to pay trevor $ 38 for all of his help.

hero (hero):

I told you guys to use "lawn" instead of "yard" to avoid confusion.
