Parth (parthkohli):

How do the very, very famous writers express feelings without using emoticons or text language?

Parth (parthkohli):

I do understand that their lingo is a little little different: they use words that are humorous, but is there anything that adds?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

because emoticons are feminine

Parth (parthkohli):

But I want to know how they do it so easily.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

are emoticons or text language even humourous?

Parth (parthkohli):

No, they aren't. I do find them kiddish, yes... but I want to know ways by which they can express feelings without using emoticons.

Parth (parthkohli):

The basic idea is feelings, how they express them, and humor is just one of the feelings that they express.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

they do not talk about themselves. they relate to others. for example, common humors back then were satirical pieces. Those were funny because it shows men's errors. Emoticons are not for humour.in fact, emoticons are used as "euphemisms". if someone makes a rude comment, he uses emoticons to make it less rude

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Without using emoticons, you can use italics, capitalization, or bold to put emphasis on a word, often making it sarcastic. People also sometimes just end a sentence with "jk".

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

also, if you're referring to the Greeks as the "very very famous writers", their texts weren't funny.

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Well, Shakespeare wrote "comedy", albeit Elizabethan comedy, meaning they had happy endings.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i think comedy only changed to funny during the 20th century

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

or was it renaissance

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Well, it depends what your definition of "funny" is. Shakespeare wrote plays that had many themes (like happily ever after) and plot twists (like people turning into animals or getting cursed) that may be considered funny nowadays.
