Whats the theme of Godzilla and what is a fiction story that has a similar theme ?
The first Godzilla film came out in 1954, nine years after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, so that was still fresh in the Japanese mind. Godzilla, who was created by nuclear radiation, turned out to be a destructive monster, a theme that was a metaphor for the use of nukes. As more films came out, he switched between being a force of destruction to something heroic when people began looking at Godzilla as more than just a clever take on the evils of nuclear weapons. There are a few fictional stories that play on the whole "danger of nuclear weapons" theme. In video games, Hideo Kojima wanted to make his own points on the dangers of nukes, and war in general, with his Metal Gear Solid series. In film, you have a number that play on the theme of nuclear power and its potential for danger such as Them! (giant, irradiated ants) or Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (a beast is freed from ice by a nuclear test). Then you have very serious stories like The Day After from way back in 1983 which tells the story of how a nuclear war begins between the USA and the USSR. It was so depressing that even then-President Reagan wrote about it in his diary.
