URGENT HELP PLEASE: Normal Distributions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The bar graph shows the rents paid per month for apartments in an urban neighborhood. The curve shows that the rents are normally distributed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Question: Estimate the percent of apartment residents who pay less than $650 per month. A) 99% B) 25% C) 3%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B....25%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The middle bar is for those who pay 650-699, well you would have to look at every bar to the left of the middle bar. Is there an option D ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fair enough, i agree. Option D was 68%, but I got that one wrong already. this is a retake :s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure with this question either... The scores on an exam are normally distributed, with a mean of 77 and a standard deviation of10. What percent of the scores are greater than 87? A) 68% B) 16% C2.5% (I got D wrong, it was 84%)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I can't help so much with this one, I just started taking stats. The answer is either B or C, am not just sure which. My reasoning is: if the standard deviation from the mean is 10, and 87 is already the 10 greater than 77 which is the mean, then the percent of scores greater than 87 can be that much, hence my choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16 seems kinda reasonable right? if you think about the real situation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually... if the mean is 77.. it means there are barely any on 90 (above 87)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so.. perhaps 2.5% (answer C)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but then again... 50% could be below 77, 34% above 77, and 16% above 87, wich can also make sense..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

damn :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm guessing this one is too difficult too? > Betty’s Bite-Size Candies are packaged in bags. The number of candies per bag is normally distributed, with a mean of 50 candies and a standard deviation of 3. At a quality control checkpoint, a sample of bags is checked, and 4 bags contain fewer than 47 candies. How many bags were probably taken as samples? A) 25 bags B) 12 bags C) 8 bags
