can anyone explain what a absolute value equation is ?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

when you have | f(x) | = a that means f(x) = a and f(x) = -a that's the basic concept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get what you are saying

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

for example you have | x | = 2 the value of x is x = 2 AND x = -2

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

if you have | x | = 3 value of x is x = 3 and x = -3

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

when you have | x + 1 | = 1 then you ahve x + 1 = 1 and x + 1 = -1 so x = 0 and x = -2

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

still nothing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is getting clearer can you explain a problem to me with items as examples

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i think i just did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no like apples or something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as the item

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm apples

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i am sorry you dont have to

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

well absolute value is not about the number of items...absolute value is DISTANCE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distance ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm sorry i know i just forgot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distance from zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yes distance.. let me try an example |dw:1346729962662:dw| in my example the distance from the house to the tree is 10 ft.
