What is the solution set of |2x + 4| < 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Chlorophyll

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand on how to do this with an equal sign...they just confused me when they put the <

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, because you just confused the crap out of me with your thumb rule. Just what do I do with the < >?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WTF?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just need the one |2x+4|<8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That makes no sense!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Frankly if want to learn, just work it out!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I just need a different explanation, not an attitude.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can read it to clear your doubt :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. I didnt mean to get upset.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And I never said you were wrong just I didnt understand it and needed a little more explaining. Im Sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x +4 > 8 and 2x+4 < -8 . Then subtract four from each side and divide by two to get two answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's your result?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uhh..6 and 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x +4 < 8 => x < 4/2 =2 2x +4 > - 8 => x > -12/2 = -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thus x ε ( -6, 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The result now is a range, not 2 points anymore!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok.
