Given: F = {(0, 1), (2, 4), (4, 6), (6, 8)} and G = {(2, 5), (4, 7), (5, 8), (6, 9), (7, 5)} (F + G) (2) = Huh? Please explain! Thanks :)

OpenStudy (across):

You're given two sets \(F\) and \(G\). What does it mean to add two sets? That is, what's \(F+G\)?

OpenStudy (across):

It's a good idea to view these sets as functions, since they clearly meet the criteria to be regarded as such. Then, what does it mean to add two functions?

OpenStudy (across):

Hint:\[F=\{(0,1),(2,4),(4,6),(6,8)\}\\G=\{(2,5),(4,7),(5,8),(6,9),(7,5)\}\\F+G=\{(0,1),(2,4+5),(4,6+7),\dots\}\text{ Can you finish it?}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So since (2,4) & (2,5) share the same x value, you add the y's giving you 9, right? & Sorry it took so long, my computer has issues.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

& Thank you :)

OpenStudy (across):

You're correct, that's fine, and you're welcome! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay, thanks :)
