3t+6/2 < 3t+6 solve the inequality. please help me step by step i know i have to start of multiplying 2 to both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, whats the equation after multiplying both sides by 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know . i just know i have to multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you work out \[2*(\frac{ 3t+6 }{ 2 }) < 2*(3t+6)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it . 3t + 6 < 6t + 12 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup you are correct :) okay from here you want all the letters on one side and all the numbers on the other side we can start with the numbers by subtracting 6 from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can i subtract 3 first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 3t from both sides? you can do that too, the order doesn't matter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

t < -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one second, let me double check the solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you divide both sides by a negative number, you have to flip the inequality sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its t>-2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup, so it should have looked like 3t + 6 < 6t + 12 6 < 3t + 12 -6 < 3t -2 < t for your way and 3t + 6 < 6t + 12 3t < 6t + 6 -3t < 6 t > -2 the other way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you soooo much . =) i have one more question can you help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ... 2n-6/5 + 1 > 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it \[\frac{ 2n-6 }{ 5 } + 1 > 0 \] ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, i. subtract one from both sides ii. multiply both sides by a certain number to simplify the equation what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 2n-6 > -5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup! can you figure out the rest? it should be just like the last problem now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it n > 1/2 ? or do i have to put n > 0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got it :) both work as the correct answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much
