In the diagram, AEB is straight and angles A and B are right. Calculate the total distance DE +EC. How do I calculate this? (Diagram will be attached.)

Okay so I got that DE = \[5\sqrt{13}\] and CE = \[10\sqrt{5}\]. I can't combine those....so how do I calculate the distance? Just leave it as \[5\sqrt{13}\] + \[10\sqrt{5}\] ?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yes - you cannot combine as such - so your answer is correct.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

you could possibly factor out a 5 to get:\[5\sqrt{13}+10\sqrt{5}=5(\sqrt{13}+2\sqrt{5})\]
