factor 2x^2-x-28

OpenStudy (gw2011):

The factors are: (2x+7)(x-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factor 2x^2-x-28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@gw2011 can u explain why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@gw2011 how come? (2x+7)(x-4),yes the product of 7 and 4 is 28 but they're sum is not -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u make a brief explanation...?

OpenStudy (gw2011):

When you multiply (7)(x) and (2x)(-4) you get 7x-8x=-x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay...that's great tnk u buddy you're the man..thnk u for helping me out... that means a lot to me...

OpenStudy (gw2011):

You're welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how about this one..3y^2 + 5y - 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@gw2011 read the CoC http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (gw2011):

For 3y^2+5y-2: You need to find what two terms when multiplied together will give you 3y^2. Then find what two terms when multiplied together will give you a -2. Once you find these terms, then the real test is determining the middle term which will come from the above terms. You can try working this out with the rules given and see how it works.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3y^2+5Y+2 DOES ANYBODY KNOW THE ANSWER.???

OpenStudy (gw2011):

What two factors (terms) will give you 3y^2? Next, what two factors (terms) will give you -2? Once you find these factors (terms), apply them in such a way that will give you 5y.

tnx but i already know the answer...
