What does Sam Harris mean by saying... "Whenever we are talking about facts, certain opinions must be excluded. That is what it is to have a domain of expertise. That is what it is for knowledge to count. How have we convinced ourselves that in a moral sphere, there is no such thing as moral expertise? Or moral talent? Or moral genius? How have we convinced ourselves that every culture has a point of view on these subjects worth considering? Does the Taliban have a point of view on physics worth considering...NO. How is their ignorance any less obvious on the subject of human well-being?
Hey! I'll give you my humble opinion about it. I hope it makes sense to you. For me, it means that there are a lot of opinions which are just not worth listening to. There might be certain conceptions about a topic in general but how can we be sure it truely is a valuable input for knowledge? What Harris is trying to tell us is that if we have a remarkable knowing about an specific subject-matter then we must not hesitate when affirming someone else is wrong, and that, indeed, will be noticed as real knowledge.
