How is power distributed in america?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.)Executive (headed by the President, aided by his advisers, known collectively as the Cabinet) 2.) Legislative (the two houses of Congress. These two houses are the House of Representatives and the Senate.) 3.)Judicial (the 9-member Supreme Court, presided over by a Chief Justice, who is essentially first among equals.) The roles of he different branches are these 1.) The legislative branch makes our nation's laws. 2.) The executive branch carries those laws out . 3.) The judicial branch interprets the laws. There are also what are called "checks and balances": The President has administrative control over the operation of our government, but Congress appropriates the necessary funds. Congress may pass laws, but Presidential approval is required for them to take effect. (When the President refuses to approve a proposed law, this is called a "veto". Congress may only override a Presidential veto by a 2/3 vote.) The Supreme Court may declare actions of Congress or the President to be unconstitutional. All appointments made by the President, be they Cabinet appointments or Supreme Court appointments, are subject to Congressional approval. Congress is established by the United States Constitution. The individual members of Congress are elected to office by voters. Members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms. Senators serve six-year terms, but the terms are staggered so that 1/3 of the Senate is elected every two years.
