The logarithm function asks for the exponent. 'log' by itself with no base given is assumed to be base-ten, so log(6) asks, "what exponent do you have to put on a base of 10 for that power of 10 to equal 6?" After you find that, you then multiply by the 5 on the outside.
Since 6 is less than 10, the exponent has to be less than 1.
So after multiplying by 5, the answer will be a number less than 5. Without a calculator, that's the best you can do without annoying root-finding algorithms.
