What are the steps used to construct the incenter of a triangle?

Parth (parthkohli):

1) Inscribe a circle that touches all three sides of the triangle. 2) Find the circle's center!

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

construct the bisector of each of the angles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how many steps are there?

Parth (parthkohli):

Also, be careful that the circle just *touches*, and doesn't go out of the triangle, like in the following picture... I always use the same picture. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just to write all the steps down and thats it. for my teacher

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

i've learned something new ...

Parth (parthkohli):

If you want it a little formal: Also, be careful that the circle's edges are secant to all the sides of the triangle.

Parth (parthkohli):

... or do I use the word "tangent" instead of "secant"?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

tangent - though wouldn't it be bit tricky drawing this circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want it in a series. such as 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then I may write it in a prargraph.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

Parthkholis method would work - mine would work also. do you know how to bisect an angle with compass and ruler?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

online yes and on paper

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

|dw:1347138845231:dw|

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

1. bisect first angle 2. bisect second angle 3 bisect third angle (they should intersect at one point if its done correctly) 4 the point of intersection is the incenter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much

OpenStudy (cwrw238):
